The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, personnel has intensified patrol in Anambra State on Tuesday, as a two-day sit-at-home order by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, continued.

The corps have beefed up security, carrying out on the streets ans major roads in the state.

Last week, a faction of IPOB circulated videos and voice notes, instructing residents of the South-East to stay indoors on October 21 and 22, threatening to attack anyone who flouted the order.

In a statement released by The NSCDC’s Head of Media and Tactical Operations in Anambra, Okadigbo Edwin, speaking on behalf of the State Commandant, Olatunde Maku, explained that the patrols were part of efforts to address the threats and reassure residents of their safety.

Edwin said the state command had launched “show of force operations” and “confidence-building patrols” across the state to counter the threats.

“In response to IPOB’s sit-at-home directive, the NSCDC, in collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, has deployed personnel to key areas across Anambra to safeguard lives and property,” he said.

He assured the public that the security forces were ready to prevent any disruptions and maintain law and order.

Edwin urged residents to continue their daily activities without fear, stressing that the NSCDC and other security agencies were fully prepared to ensure peace.

Residents were also encouraged to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and use the emergency hotline, 08066769442, to contact security personnel.

The NSCDC warned that any individuals or groups attempting to disrupt public order would face swift and decisive action.

Despite the presence of security patrols, most markets, schools, banks, motor parks, and public facilities remained closed, and major roads in the state were largely empty.
