The Ekiti State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, announced the arrest of 14 suspects for cybercrime.
The state NSCDC commandant, Paul Sosina, said the suspects were arrested in Ado Ekiti during an operation carried out by command’s Counter-Terrorism Unit, Intelligence and Investigation Unit, and Financial Crime Unit.
Corps’s spokesperson, Tolulope Afolabi Sosina, revealed that the arrests were reactions to public complaints of unexplained withdrawals from their bank accounts and related fraud incidents involving point-of-sale operators.
The suspects have been transferred to the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for further investigation.
Sosina identified the alleged offences as “criminal conspiracy, cybercrime, and obtaining under false pretences,” with various items seized during the operation, including phones, motorcycles, keys, and jewelry.”
He thereby gave assurance that the corps continue to maintain a high level of professionalism by shunning any bribes from suspects or their relatives.
He warned that anyone attempting to bribe NSCDC officers in the state would face the wrath of the law.
