It was a hilarious scene as an unknown operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and a member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, threw blows at each other over after an argument arising from food at an event organised by the Department of Parks and Recreation, Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, to celebrate the 2023 World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.
It took the timely intervention of some individuals including some journalists who attended the event to stop tge altercation from degenerating to a serious physical engagement, as other irate corps members planned to descend on the aggressors to vent their displeasure.
The function took place at the office of the department, located within the one of the military barracks Asokoro, was attended by people from different walks of life.
It was said that many of the guests left the event in anger as some staff of the department refused to serve food and drinks to guests.
The confrontation began when the NSCDC officer hit a male youth corps member while trying to grab a bag containing packs of rice and drinks from him.
The corps member, who didn’t want his name in print, revealed that he told the operative that the food packs were reserved for his friends, who were also present at the programme, but he wouldn’t listen to his explanation.
Reacting to the incident, one of the NSCDC agents blamed corps member for dragging food with one of their men.
“He is wearing NYSC uniform but can’t express himself in the public, yet he has the guts to disrespect a civil defence official because of food and our people were just looking at them. This is bad. My concern is not about the food but how he was fighting with a uniformed person.
“I am angry with some of our men who were looking at the whole thing instead of manhandling the guy,” the NSCDC officer said
