A councilorship candidate, Adeyinka Adeleke, was killed by suspected gunmen on Saturday afternoon in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State.
Adeleke, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ward 15 in the upcoming November 16 local government elections, was attacked by his killers in a tinted car who shot and left him in a stream of blood.
Sources disclosed that the gunmen shot Adeleke at close range before striking him with stones to ensure he stopped breathing.
A viral clip shows his corpse, with distressed voices of passers-by heard in the background.
The development caused terror in the area, making residents flee for safety and shop owners closing their businesses in fear.
According to a sour, “The gunmen came in a tinted car, shot him (Adeyinka Adeleke), and hit him with stones till he died. The entire area is on edge now.”
Adeleke, a former transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, was killed around 2 p.m. on Saturday. Local residents are unsure whether the incident is related to cult violence or another motive.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident but noted that Adeleke’s family had taken his dead body for burial.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, has yet to respond to inquiries at the time of this report.
