The Ondo state government has urged members of the public to disregard report that the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu is dead.
The government said the report is untrue, further describing it as the handiwork of mischief makers.
The disclosure was contained in a press release signed by the state commissioner for information, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju,
Ademola-Olateju stated that some individuals are bent on scoring cheap political points from the disinformation.
Although, the government maintained that the Governor has not been feeling too well but that has not stopped him from attending to state affairs and assigning functions to officials of the Government, when necessary.
Part of the release stated, “We have been inundated with calls and messages concerning the state of health of the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON. We had chosen to ignore this wicked fabrication until it appeared that certain persons seek to draw political mileage from the disinformation.
“Though the Governor has been indisposed for sometime, but he has been attending to state matters and delegating functions to functionaries of the Government, when necessary.
“We enjoin the members of the public to ignore the rumour. Aketi is very much alive.”
Lately, the Social Media is filled with claims that Governor Akeredolu is dead.
It is against this development, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the state challenged the government to declare the health status of the governor.
The City Gazette recalls that Sahara Reporters published an exclusive report on Friday, June 3 that the Governor is in a critical health condition and would be flown abroad for treatment.
It alleged that Governor Akeredolu is suffering from an ailment diagnosed to be blood cancer (leukemia).
The online newspaper even claimed that the Governor has been bedridden as his hands and legs are immovable.
