Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, has made a shocking revelation about his visit to the palace of the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi.
Oba Ogunwusi said Oba Abdulrasheed sent him out of his palace like a child.
In a TikTok video, the Ooni spoke about the occurrence, saying, “When I visited the Oluwo, he chased me out like a child. Since then, I have kept my distance.
“Now that you are asking me to visit him again, what if he repeats it? But as an elder, I must handle his excesses, though I am a young man sitting on an elder’s throne. Oluwo, I greet you,” The Ooni of Ife said.
The Ooni, however, did not speak about any rancour with Oluwo. Sources suggest that the cold disagreement may stem from the Oluwo’s indifference to traditional belief.
In a different video, Oba Akanbi stressed that his role as a king is to spread God’s words, distancing himself from traditional festivals like Ogun and Egungun.
Oluwo in a Facebook post, flashback to the influence of islam in Iwo kingdom, emphasising that since the reign of Oba Memudu Ayinla Lamuye in the 1800s, the town has largely embraced Islam, with mosques in every compound.
He mentioned that earlier monarchs, such as Oba Ibirinade Adekanbi, eliminated idol worship and helped spread Islam in the region.
This is not the first public tension between the two traditional rulers.
In 2018, Oba Abdulrasheed alleged the Ooni’s bodyguard of shoving him at a meeting of traditional rulers in Port Harcourt.
However, the Ooni debunked the rumour, denying occurrence such incident.
Oba Abdulrasheed has long been subject of public backlash, especially among his fellow royal father over his indifference to traditional practices and idol worshipping.
