Osimhen becomes first Nigerian player to be nominated for Ballon d’Or

Nigeria and Napoli strike, Victor Osimhen has been nominated for the 2023 FIFA Men’s Ballon d’O award.

The lanky forward is the first Nigerian player to be nominated for the football most recognised award since it was launched in 1999.

The 24-year-old catapulted to stardom with his excellent exploits with the ilatlian top-flight champions, Napoli last season.

The striker notched up 26 goals in 32 league appearances, helping Napoli win the Scudetto for the first time since 1990.

Osimhen also scored five goals in the UEFA Champions League for the Partenopei last season.

The former wolfsburg attacker has also continued his goal scoring form this new campaign for Rudi Garcia’s side, after bagging three goals from three matches.
