People living in Awolumate Zone 3 Community in Ile-Ife, Osun State, have cried out, seeking the intervention of security agencies and the state government on the mining activities of some Chinese locals which they alleged has put their homes on brink of collapse.
Residents of the community claimed that the expatriate miners had excavated a large expense of land close to residential areas, putting about 20 houses at risk due to the unregulated activities of the miners.
Chairman of the community, Abimbola Olafare, as a result, has sought the assistance of concerned government institutions and security agencies to swing into action against alleged the illegal mining activities in the area which according to him poses a lot of environmental threats to the settlement.
Speaking on the matter, Olafare said, “As many as 20 houses have been affected by the activities of these miners. There was no agreement signed with them before they commenced work in the area.
“We have to rescue people whose houses are close to the river. An old woman fled from home because of the activities of these miners. We never consented to them working in our community. Security agents and government should come to our aid,” he concluded.
