The duo of Paul and Peter Okoye of P-Square have finally broken their silence about the current happening in the afrobeats industry.
They revealed that if it wasn’t for their break-up, the superstars such as Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and musical stars wouldn’t have dominated the afrobeats music scene.
The Jos born twins maintained that they were in the musical limelight both in Nigeria and Africa for about 14 years until their first separation in 2016, leaving the stage for other stars to shine.
P-Square recently featured in a recent episode of The 77 Podcast.
While responding to claims that afrobeats attract global recognition when they are no more together, Peter said, “Says who? They never said that.”
Paul added, “Let me tell you something, I’ve been hearing that. Even if they put it that way, it means some way God has his own way. If we were there [together in the music industry] those people [dominant music stars] there would have never been light for them. And don’t forget, we’ve dominated the [Nigerian] music industry for a long time. We held it down for nearly 13,14 years,” he disclosed.
The identical couple parted ways in 2017. It was reported that family-related issues and not music were reasons for the split of long-lived group.
