Kano State Police Command revealed that it has arrested 57 suspects over alleged involvement in the looting of public properties.
This disclosure was contained in a press statement authored by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullah Haruna Kiyawa and made available to the press on Saturday, June 10.
The development followed the demolition of some illegal buildings within Kano metropolitan area by the State Government.
Kiyawa said the apprehension of the culprits came after receiving reports that some miscreants were exploring the opportunity of the demolition exercise to cart away people’s properties.
The statement added, “This is in addition to the 49 suspects arrested and charged to Magistrates Court for offenses of criminal trespass, mischief, shop-breaking and theft.”
He further maintained that members of the public collaborate with security agencies to make effective policing achievable.
He, however, charged parents and community leaders to warn their wards and children to shun looting people’s properties, as anyone caught would be properly death with.
“CP advised parents and community leaders to admonish their wards and youths to desist from looting people’s property,” the statement warned.
Nigerian Army kills 6 terrorists, recover arms in Kaduna
The Nigerian Army said it had killed six terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition in Kaduna State.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Musa Danmadami, said in a release on Saturday in Abuja.
Danmadami noted that the operatives had on Friday carried out a sting operation around terrorists’ hideout at Maidaro village in Giwa Local Government Area.
He stressed that the six terrorists were neutralised in a gun duel with the troops.
He furthered that, five AK 47 rifles, 192 rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm Special ammunitions, 74 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm Special and Nine AK 47 rifle magazines were seized from the hoodlums.
“Three IEDs, three Baofeng radios, one PKM, three motorcycles amongst other sundry items were recovered.
“The military high command commends troops and encourages the general public to avail troops with credible and timely information on terrorist and all criminal activities within their area,” he said.
