The Ogun State Police Command has commenced the search for suspected cultists involved in the killing of Adeleke Adeyinka, the All Progressives Congress Councillorship candidate.
Adeyinka, who was vying for the Ward 15 Councillorship office in Abeokuta South local council in the November 16 polls, was reportedly killed in the early hours of Saturday by suspected cultists.
The City Gazette reported that the hoodlums shot Adeyinka from close range from an unidentified vehicle before crushing his head with stones to ensure his death.
The 40-year-old was a member of the Transport Union in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
According to a statement by the Police Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the police have begun an investigation into the killing and are confident that the suspects, who are currently at large, will be apprehended soon.
Odutola confirmed that the suspects are members of a cult group and added that Adeyinka’s body has been released to his family.
