Fate plays its part as Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday, June 7 saved two people from mob attack by irate youths in Ihiala local government area of the state for allegedly killing three people for money ritual.
Members of the community were seen in a video online parading the two suspects naked. A man who was recording the lnyching stated that the suspects, a male and a female had killed three people for ritual purposes.
In the video online, the dead bodies of the victims were loaded in a wheelbarrow, while the suspects were made to push them in turns.
In a press release, the image maker of the Anambra state police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, clarified that the incident was a case of murder, without any connection to ritual killings.
Ikenga revealed the officers of the command upon being abreast of public parade of the suspects, immediately swung into action and saved them from being lynched to death.
He maintained the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary while the suspects are currently receiving medical attention in an unnamed hospital with the state.
“The Command operatives by 10 am yesterday 7/6/2023 rescued two victims and a suspect who was about to be lynched by an angry mob at the total junction, ihiala.
“To set the records straight, it is not a case of ritual killing, but a pure incident of murder. Preliminary information reveals that the two culprits a man and a woman who were humiliated and paraded as shown in the video by the angry mob were erroneously accused by the mob as they were seen at the scene where the murder took place.
“Also, both the suspect and victims are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. While the deceased has been deposited in a morgue.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng as calling for calm, while the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for a comprehensive investigation.
