The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command said it has arrested four suspects allegedly planning to attack government institutions and residential estates in Abuja on Independence Day.

The suspects were apprehended at their hideout in the Sauka area of the FCT following intelligence reports on their activities, according to the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh.

Adeh identified the suspects as Yau Sani (a.k.a. Baba, an ex-convict), Nuhu (a.k.a. Giwa), Kabiru Mohammed, and Yusuf Hassan. She revealed that the suspects confessed to several kidnappings in the FCT, Kaduna, and Niger, as well as the killing of seven victims.

“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the FCT Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, trailed and arrested four notorious kidnappers on October 1, 2024. These suspects have been terrorizing the FCT and surrounding areas,” Adeh said.

The gang had targeted areas including Dakwa, Dawaki, Aco Estate, Dupe Village, Zuma Rock, Kuchiko Village, and other villages in Niger and Kaduna states. Following their arrest, the suspects led police to a forest in Niger where they had hidden four AK-47 rifles and 175 rounds of ammunition.

Adeh added, “The suspects also led police operatives to another hideout in Gauraka Forest, Suleja, Niger State, where four additional AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, and 162 rounds of 7.6mm live ammunition were recovered.”

The suspects further confessed to planning attacks on government institutions and estates in the FCT, which were thwarted by the proactive measures of the police.

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime and urged the public to report any suspicious activities through the police emergency lines.
