Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a prophetess, Folashade Adekola, after a woman, Jumoke Adesuwa, and her newborn tragically died during childbirth at the prophetess’s church in Akure.

Reports indicate that Adesuwa, who had gone into labor at the church in the Oke-Aro area, experienced severe complications, resulting in heavy bleeding following the birth. The baby reportedly died immediately after delivery.

The incident came to authorities’ attention when Adesuwa’s brother filed a complaint, leading to Adekola’s arrest.

Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, stated that Adekola has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, where further investigations are underway.

“The case was reported by the deceased’s brother, who informed us that his sister died after childbirth at the church. The prophetess is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing,” Odunlami said.

According to a family source, the church initially informed Adesuwa’s husband about the delivery, prompting him to rush to the church with a family member, where they found Adesuwa in critical condition.

“We were told the baby had died during delivery, but the mother was alive. However, she was lying in a pool of blood,” the source recounted.

They immediately took her to a nearby hospital, but she was reportedly rejected by three facilities due to her condition, and ultimately, she passed away at the last hospital as doctors tried to revive her.

Upon returning to the church to collect the baby’s remains, the family reportedly found the newborn’s body in a room deemed unsuitable for childbirth. This discovery led them to file a police report, which resulted in the prophetess’s arrest.
