Setback as South West Labour Party members join APC

Members of the Labour Party (LP) members in the South West, on Monday, February 13 in their multitude decamped to the All Progressives Congress, APC, to support the presidential bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The development was announced barely few hours after LP governorship candidate, Bashir Bashir joined the All Progressives Congress in Kano.

The scores of decampees were reported to have torn their membership cards while announcing their defection to the ruling APC.

The news of the mass defection hit the internet in less than 48 hours after the presidential candidate of the LP, Peter Obi concluded his political campaigns throughout the federation.

The LP members, who were led by the Southwest Chairman of the party, Banji Omotosho, threw their weight behind the former governor of Lagos State, at an event held in Akure, the Ondo State.

The National Chairman of the South West Agenda For Asiwaju Tinubu (SWAGA) 2023, Dr. Dayo Adeyeye was said to be the brain behind the mass exodus from the opposition.

Omotosho furthered that members of the LP in the region have decided to exit the party because it lacks the structure to win the 2023 elections.
