Some suspected cult members on Wednesday, July 26 hacked a member of a rival group to death inside Eke Awka market, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to a source, the brutal act took place in the early hours of the day as traders were preparing to open their shops for business activities.

The source added that slain individual whose name was given as Igwe Omeli, was a cultist, who collected tolls for the leadership of the market.

“He was hacked down in the market, around 7am. He sighted members of the rival cult and made efforts to escape and also alert his gang members, but he was not lucky.

“His head was cut off, including his manhood, and his assailants took them away, leaving the trunk lying inside a line in the market,” the source said.

While confirming the development, image maker of Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, revealed that officers of the command have been deployed to restore normalcy in the area.

It was gathered that the incident led to untimely closure of shops over fear of retaliatory attack by the rival group.
