Famous Nigerian singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, otherwise referred to as Tems has eventually received her Grammy Award plaque.
It would be recalled that Tems won the sought-after accolade for Best Melodica Rap Performance at the 65th Grammys which took place on February 6, 2023.
Tems’ Grammy-winning contribution came from her collaboration with renowned artists Future and Drake on the nostalgic bop dubbed, ‘Wait For U.‘
Manager of the hip-hop star, via his official Instagram account on Friday, June 2nd, 2023 announced that the much anticipated Grammy Award plaque has finally arrived.
Expressing her pleasure, the artiste flaunted the Grammy award plaque without any comment.
With the success, Tems has become the first female Nigerian artiste to win a Grammy.
It further marks another breakthrough as she set the record as the first female Nigerian singer to receive a Grammy nomination the previous year.
Tems’ nomination in the Best Global Performance category for her hit song ‘Essence,’ a collaboration with fellow Nigerian artist Wizkid, had dominated global discourse, but unfortunately Pakistan’s Arooj Aftab defeated Tems to win the award.
Unfailingly, this achievement will surely act as opener for more opportunities and collaborations for the Nigerian superstar.
Tems’s Grammy Award plaque arrival was trailed by series of reactions as her enthusiasts aimed a dig at singer Davido fans, maintaining that they can’t relate to the achievement as their favorite, Davido has never been nominated talkless of winning Grammy award.
