Some thugs have reportedly attacked the campaign office of the gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka.
Ajaka is a former Deputy Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, before joining SDP to vye for governor.
The assault took place in Lokoja on Sunday morning.
It was said that the thugs destroyed SDP campaign secretariat, setting Ajaka’s billboard ablaze.
The hoodlums allegedly stormed the campaign office, located along Paparanda Kpata market, asking security personnel to remove the picture of President Bola Tinubu for not belonging to the SDP.
Ajaka opened the campaign office for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was the presidential candidate of the APC in the last general election.
The edifice currently serves as SDP governorship campaign office.
Chief Sam Ranti Abenemi, SDP’s deputy governorship candidate, who confirmed the incident the destruction of campaign office and billboard doesn’t amount to electoral victory.
He continued that there was no wrong in using Tinubu’s pictures for their billboard because he is a mentor to his principal.
“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the political mentor of my principal, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, and also the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; we owe him that respect, and that is why we have his pictures on our billboard, irrespective of political party,” he explained.
