Nigeria president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has on Thursday, June 15, 2023 inaugurated the newly constituted National Economic Council, NEC.

The inauguration took place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, June 15.

The City Gazette gathered that the Council would be supervised by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima.

The President, at the inauguration, promised to sustain the rejuvenation of the nation’s economy.

The Vice President charged the council to collaborate with other public establishments in order to foster aggressive economic growth in the country.

Tinubu further maintained that building the nation’s economy was no child play, thereby calling on the NEC members to discharge their avowed responsibilities effectively.

The President also admonished governors to work hand in hand with local governments to aggressively invest in infrastructure and proffer solutions to problems facing the country.

He said, “You and I asked for it. We campaigned for it. We even danced for it. So, we have no reason to complain. Members of this country are behind us. They want reforms and they want them quickly. You here are stakeholders…. Collaboration is not a crime. Please, let us do so.”

The economic council was set up by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

The council, which holds monthly meeting, is charged with the responsibility of advising the President on the economic matters of the nation.
