Tinubu proposes new revenue agency, Customs and NPA

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his administrations intent to bar the Nigerian Customs Service and Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, from collecting revenues on behalf of the Federal Government.

The President, is therefore making plans to introduce a new agency that would to take over revenue collection duties.

This move is aimed at improving revenue generation for the country. With this reforms, about 60 revenue-collecting agencies stripped up the duties of revenue collection to allow them carry oit their primary functions.

The government is optimistic that this development shore up the revenue base of the country to execute infrastructural projects.

On Thursday, President Tinubu sent four executive bills on tax reforms to the National Assembly. One major change in the bill is the renaming of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to the Nigeria Revenue Service.

A source in the Presidency explained that only the revenue collection agencies like Customs and NPA will be moved to the new Nigeria Revenue Service.
