Twenty dead, six injured in Lagos-Ibadan, Mokwa road mishaps

About 20 travellers have reportedly lost their lives and six others sustained injuries, in a fatal collision at Lagos-Ibadan expressway and Mokwa, Niger state.

Confirming the incident in a press release, the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, disclosed that the Ibadan auto crash involved a Toyota Bus with number plate: TRK135ZY.

While the Mokwa accident was a head on between a trailer and a bus.

The Otukpo crash which was caused by a fallen tree that obstructed the expressway, involved a bus registered as NAK77XA.

18 male adults were involved in the Ibadan road mishap, out of which 10 were dead, six sustained injuries of varying degrees

On the Mokwa crash, 10 casualties were recorded, as 9 of them died on the spot and the remaining victim died at the hospital.

No fatality was recorded in the Otukpo road disaster as the injured victims have been hospitalised.

Road obstruction and over speeding were cited as the cause of the accident.

The statement disclosed: “The six victims who were rescued with different degrees of injuries during the rescue operations of the Ibadan crash were given adequate first aid by the Corps’ medical rescue team before moving them to Ibadan Central Hospital for proper medical attention.

“While the remains of the killed victims were deposited in Adeoyo General Hospital Morgue in Ibadan, Oyo State.”
