The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the state Teaching Commission has witnessed the employment of almost 10,000 teachers within the space of three years.

“In the last three years, we have successfully recruited almost 10,000 teachers across primary and secondary schools. In the area of educational technology, we have been living up to our name as Nigeria’s pace-setter state,” Sanwo-Olu claimed.

The governor made the statement at the presentation of the 2023 appropriation bill tagged: “Budget of Continuity” to the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday.

The budget is estimated at N1,692,670,759,894, with recurrent expenditure of N759,958,569,792 representing 45% and capital expenditure of N932,712,190,102 representing 55%.

He further notes that recruitment became necessary in order to improve human resources and equip the education sector in the state.

Mr Sanwo-Olu, who churned out many of his achievements since 2019, said his administration has successfully executed 1,149 unique projects in our schools, including construction and handing over 1,047 new classrooms.

He also revealed that the state has renovated 197 schools, constructed 8 brand new hostel accommodations in some of the model schools, given about 2000 bed spaces to the schools, built and handed over 8 power security buildings,
rehabilitated about 298 public secondary schools and handed 5 new public
