The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Augustine Wokocha, has lambasted the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, saying he lack to the needed qualities to lead the opposition party in the state.
A former Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Chief Tony Okocha while addressing pressmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday advised Wike to join the APC in the state.
A former Commissioner for Power and a chieftain of the APC in Rivers State, however, noted that Wike doesn’t have what it takes to become leader of the APC in the state.
Wokocha made this assertion while briefing pressmen in Port Harcourt on Friday, June 23, 2023.
He described Okocha’s claim that Wike’s influence led to victory of Tinubu in the last general election as untrue.
He said the victory of president Tinubu in the presidential election in the State was not a handiwork of an individual.
Wokocha, thereby, claimed that over 200,000 Rivers people gave their mandate to Tinubu.
He continues, “I ran the campaign for the Tinubu election. I can’t remember anywhere, anytime when the immediate past governor of Rivers State canvass any support for the President.
He alleged that the Former Minister of Education did not in any way campaign for the president during the campaign period, saying Wike did not direct his followers to cast their votes for Tinubu.
“So it is important we continue to appreciate Rivers people. And of course, people worked, those who did the canvassing to convince people that Tinubu was a better candidate also deserve our appreciation and gratitude.”
There have been series of rumours that the former Governor of Rivers State may eventually pitch his tent with the ruling party and it was reported that president Tinubu is is planning to offer him a ministerial appointment as reward for the role he played in the victory of the APC during the lastpresidential poll.
