Nigeria-born UK parliamentarian Kemi Badenoch has criticised Nigeria immigration procedures.
The conservative leader maintained that it is difficult for children to get Nigeria citizenship because she is a woman.
Badenoch lamented during an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria on Sunday.
She issued the statement while making a comparison between the British and Nigerian immigration policies.
She said that immigrants easily exploit the British system in ways they would not dare attempt in their home countries.
In addition, Badenoch cited her children’s inability to obtain Nigerian citizenship.
“It’s virtually impossible, for example, to get Nigerian citizenship. I have that citizenship by virtue of my parents, I can’t give it to my children because I’m a woman,” she said.
“Yet loads of Nigerians come to the UK and stay for a relatively free period of time, acquire British citizenship. We need to stop being naive.”
